Who are OLPRO?
Based just outside Worcester, OLPRO is a UK-based outdoor leisure products brand with bright bold designs that really “stand out” on the campsite. Their range of tents and awnings come in an array of vibrant colourways and contain subtle yet innovative design features that just work. OLPRO are a truly sustainable brand with B Corp certification, and a tree planted for every tent, awning, and backpack sold.
In 2024 OLPRO is launching their new range of awnings made from OLTECH RE-PRO, a technical fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. Tents and awnings from the 2024 range also come with a lifetime warranty, once again leading the industry for sustainable camping and caravanning.
Driveaway Inflatable Awnings
An inflatable drive-away awning is the perfect living space extension for your campervan. Quick to erect, inflatable awnings can be pitched in as little as ten minutes and offer much better protection from the wind than poled awnings.
The OLPRO range of inflatable awnings all have Breeze in their model name, and in 2024 there are 4 brand new V2 versions of previous models. The V2 models all come in the new OLTECH RE-PRO fabric and contain design improvements over the models they replace.
Best inflatable awning for families: Cocoon Breeze V2
The most popular model in the range, the OLPRO Cocoon Breeze is back in 2024 with a new V2 version that has several changes over the original. There are several updates to the entrances, first off is the relocation of the vehicle tunnel to the opposite side of the awning. Back in 2020 we were using the original Cocoon Breeze and one of the quirks of that variant was that when you connected your passenger side sliding door to the awning it would be facing the opposite way to your van. Now with the V2 version the front of the awning is at the front of the van (note: if you have a campervan with the sliding door on the driver's side like the VW California you might want to look at the original Cocoon Breeze).
Another update to the V2 is the addition of J doors in the tunnel section to the front and rear, so you can now enter and exit the vehicle without having to walk through the awning. On the opposite side, the side door of the Cocoon Breeze V2 now has an integrated porch area that should prevent rain from coming in, and that could also be used as a boot room or maybe a place for your portable toilet. Another addition worth mentioning on the V2 is that the awning connector now comes with both 4mm and 6mm strips, although we recommend using a quick-release strip if you are planning to drive away and leave your awning on site.
The Cocoon Breeze V2 is our best inflatable awning for families because of the large living area and twin bedrooms that can sleep up to 5. Another upgrade for the V2 model is darker fabric in the bedroom pods and there are now extra storm beam fixings above the bedrooms so you can use the provided beams where you need them most or buy additional beams to make your awning extra sturdy in windy conditions. If you need even more room, there’s an optional front porch extension available that extends your living space. For the complete experience, we also thoroughly recommend buying the footprint groundsheet and carpet bundle.
Best drive-away awning for short trips: Loopo Breeze V2
Since 2022 we have been travelling with the original Loopo Breeze and for weekend trips or multi-stop longer holidays, it has been an ideal travelling companion, making the Loopo Breeze V2 our best awning for short trips. The Loopo Breeze design is a simple two-beam tunnel awning that sits at a 90-degree angle to the sliding door. As such the arch of the beam is at its tallest by the door making it easy to transfer between the vehicle and the living space without ducking. With practice, the Loopo Breeze takes less than 10 minutes to pitch.
As with the Cocoon, the Loopo Breeze V2 comes in the new recycled bottle fabric OLTECH RE-PRO which has a 5000mm hydrostatic head and is treated to protect you from UV radiation to UPF 50+. The Loopo Breeze V2 does not come with a sleeping area but you can purchase an optional 2-berth bedroom pod that clips into fixings at the tops of the airbeams. Once again we thoroughly recommend considering the optional footprint groundsheet to protect the bottom of your awning and carpet to keep your feet warm at night.
Best air awning for small vans: Cubo Breeze V2
The Cubo Breeze V2 is another 2-beam tunnel awning design, so it’s very similar in size to the Loopo Breeze. The difference is that the Cubo Breeze sits parallel to the vehicle and as such does not extend so far away from the sliding door. The tunnel section of the Cubo Breeze is much narrower than the Loopo Breeze or the Uno Breeze, so this is why the Cubo Breeze is our best air awning for small vans with shorter awning rails such as a Suzuki Carry, Mazda Bongo, or Ford Freda. The Cubo Breeze can also be used as a tailgate awning if you prefer to pitch your awning behind your vehicle.
The upgrades on the Cubo Breeze V2 are similar to the rest of the range, it is made from the OLTECH RE-PRO sustainable fabric, and it also has 4mm and 6mm connection strips. As with the Cocoon Breeze V2, the Cubo Breeze V2 also gets J doors added to the tunnel so it is now easier to enter and exit the vehicle without walking through the awning. Like the Loopo Breeze, you can purchase an optional 2-berth sleeping pod if you need extra sleeping space, and a footprint and carpet are also available as optional extras.
Best standalone awning for small pitches: Uno Breeze V2
If pitch space is your primary concern, the Uno Breeze V2 is your ideal companion for compact camping and it’s our best pick for small pitches. The Uno Breeze awning has an X-shaped air beam with a single inflation point for the quickest pitch time of the whole range. Sitting alongside your vehicle, the Uno Breeze has a wide tunnel area that allows your opened sliding door to remain inside the tunnel, allowing you to leave the door open to your living area.
The Uno Breeze V2 comes with the same upgrades as the rest of the V2 range, available in several colourways in the new OLTECH RE-PRO fabric. It also has the dual 4mm and 6mm awning bead and J-doors in the tunnel. The Uno Breeze V2 is a great living space for dining or just chilling out, and is an ideal option if you do not need to sleep in your awning.
Driveaway Poled Awnings
The Breeze range of inflatable awnings are always popular, but there are several reasons why you might want to consider a drive-away poled awning from the OLPRO range. Most OLPRO models come in both poled and air beam variants, and in some cases, we think the poled versions are even better than their Breeze alternative (more on this later).
For us, poled awnings have three clear benefits to air beams. Poled awnings are much lighter to carry, the packed size is significantly smaller for some models, and the prices are often much more affordable. 2024 also brings a range of V2 poled awnings in a slightly different fabric, but again made from recycled plastic bottles.
Best poled awning for families: Cocoon V2
The OLPRO Cocoon V2 is the poled variation of the Cocoon Breeze V2. The Cocoon is visually similar to its Breeze sibling, a large tunnel design that sits alongside your vehicle. Again you have a 5-berth bedroom with the “new for 2024” darker bedroom pod fabric, which is removable if you don’t need a bedroom and prefer a larger open living area.
The side entrance has a storm porch to keep the rain out, although it is not fully enclosed as it is on the Breeze model. One big benefit that the poled Cocoon V2 has is the integrated front porch extension. This allows for a covered outside area suitable for chilling outside while still being protected from the rain or sunshine.
Best budget awning for campervans: Loopo V2
If you are new to campervanning and not sure what to buy for your first awning, or you are looking for an affordable yet practical option, the Loopo V2 is our choice for best budget awning. With the same transverse layout as the Loopo Breeze V2 this awning sits at a right angle to the sliding door on your vehicle.
The Loopo V2 is a slightly different design to the Breeze version with an additional small storm porch at the front. The poled version of the Loopo V2 also comes with a clip-in bedroom, which would be an optional extra on the Loopo Breeze.
Best standalone poled awning: Hive
Looking for something a little different? The OLPRO Hive poled awning has a large hexagonal living space and a 2-berth bedroom with a detachable bedroom pod, so if you don’t need sleeping space you can use it as extra living space. The awning tunnel has J-doors to the front and rear allowing for easy access to the vehicle, and the main living area has six skylight windows to let in loads of light in the day or a view of the stars at night.
The Hive was released in 2022 and is not being replaced this year but we had to mention it as the Hive poled is the awning that we have been using for longer trips since we got ours last year. In our opinion, it’s a fantastic-looking design that works well if you need a lot of living space and that makes it our pick for best standalone poled awning.
The Hive is also available as an inflatable awning in the form of the Hive Breeze. There are some differences that you should be aware of though, the Breeze version does weigh in a lot heavier and you have slightly less room inside as the air beams are inside the living area whereas on the poled version they are on the outside. It’s also worth noting that the Breeze does not have a sewn in groundsheet in the bedroom so we would strongly recommend getting the Hive footprint if you buy a Breeze model.
Campervan Sun Canopies
Sometimes you don’t need a full awning, you might just need a shelter for an overnight stay or a shade for a day out. 2024 brings two new options to the OLPRO range that offer something a little different for your camping adventure.
Best canopy for overnight stays: Pershore Breeze
The Pershore Breeze quite possibly the most versatile canopy comes awning on the market today. We are so excited by this new design we are ordering one for ourselves. The two long sides of this canopy can be zipped in place to protect from the wind, rolled up to allow for open airflow, or even pegged out on king poles to make a large covered space. The panels also have toggle-in window blinds and the front section is compatible with the Cocoon Breeze universal door.
This means at night with the universal door (optional extra) you can close up the Pershore Breeze canopy into an ultra compact lean-to attached awning, which is why we have made this our best canopy for overnight stays.
Best canopy for days out: Modern Shade
Campervans at the beach, what could be a better day out? How about adding the new OLPRO Modern Shade, our choice for best canopy for days out. The Modern Shade is a functional hexagonal design that comes with two adjustable king poles, and the side wings have skylight windows so you can still see the view.
As soon as we saw this design announced on Instagram we had to put our names down for one, so expect to see this on our van as soon as it is released in the UK. As with the new 2024 awnings, the Modern Shade is made from OLTECH RE-PRO and comes in the charcoal and orange colourway. As the shade will fit any awning rail with a 4mm or 6mm bead, it’s just at home on a short campervan or a tall motorhome.
Awnings for Tall vans and Motorhomes
Not everyone has a campervan these days but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. There is a selection of the OLPRO awning range that come in an XL variant. The XL designates that the tunnel section has been designed to fit on the higher awning rail height of a taller van or coach-built motorhome.
Best driveway awning for motorhomes: Loopo Breeze XL V2
For many motorhome owners you might already have plenty of living space inside your vehicle, so an awning is there primarily as an outside living area. You may be looking for an awning that is easy to pitch, and that can be easily disconnected so that you can leave the campsite during the day while your awning remains saving your space. For these reasons, the Loopo Breeze XL V2 is our best drive-away awning for motorhomes.
The Loopo Breeze XL V2 is identical to the Loopo Breeze V2 except that it has been designed for a taller awning rail. The built-in 4mm and 6mm connectors allow you the flexibility to connect to a fixed awning rail on the vehicle or the rail of a wind-out awning such as the Fiamma or Dometic range.
Best large awning for tall vans: Cocoon Breeze XL V2
Maybe you don’t have a motorhome, you have a tall campervan or large self-built camper? Our best large awning for tall vans pick is the Cocoon Breeze XL V2. This drive-away inflatable awning is ideal for when you need a lot of space or need extra sleeping space. The clip-in bedroom sleeps up to 5 and can be removed if you would rather use the larger living space.
As with the Cocoon Breeze V2, the XL is finished in the OLTECH RE-PRO fabric, it has the 4mm and 6mm awning connectors, J-doors in the tunnels, and extra storm bars over the bedroom (compared to the previous version). You also have the option of adding the footprint and carpet for the complete awning experience.
Best value awning for tall vans: Cubo XL
If you are looking for a great value awning for your larger vehicle, the Cubo XL poled awning is our pick for the best value awning for tall vans. The Cubo XL is constructed of two poles in a cross formation, coupled with an extra tall awning tunnel. The benefit of the poled version is that it packs down smaller and lighter than the Breeze version, along with having a slightly larger living space.
